Fall is here!

If the words of the Greenday song: "wake me up when september ends..." are to be heeded then two words should be in order...WAKE UP!!!!!

Indeed the fall quarter is upon us. And for those living in beautiful and sunny Irvine that means a three things; the Santa Ana winds, daily gloom, and flying foliage! But more importantly for many of us students it means hitting the books once again as a new year unfolds, one full of term papers, exams, projects, presentations, long nights of studying, returning to a diet primarily composed of Top Ramen, dry Cheerios, and Doritoes in between! For the student members of the Casali lab though, there is an added bonus. It also means returning to the lab for another fun-filled year of research!

So as the sun retires from its usual throne in the sky returns to the shadows, and as the nights begin to overtake the days, and warmth is replaced with cold and wind, we wish you the best this season and many more to come. So get out your laptops and notebooks, and reset your alarms to 6:00 if youre going to make it on time for that 8:00 class! Best of luck to all and welcome back.

Congratulations!: Ahmed Ibrahim joins the UC Davis MPH Program

Congratulations to Ahmed Ibrahim who will be joining the UC Davis School of Medicine Master of Public Health Program. Ahmed was accepted early this summer and began classes in August. He is done with classes now and will return to Davis on Sunday to start the fall quarter of his one year program. In the meantime, Ahmed plans to apply for medical school. His plans span three goals. On the clinical aspect,he wishes to study immunology, from the public health aspect he wishes to study infectious disease epidemiology and from a basic science aspect study vaccine development.

"It is bittersweet leaving the lab. I have learned so much from everyone here, but it is so exhilarating to realize I will put these skills to good use. Besides, though my professional relationship will end, but the friendships I have formed with past and current lab members continues to be strong" says Ahmed. On behalf the all us at the Casali lab, we wish Ahmed the best of luck as he pursues his academic endeavors.
